The Secret Fire Review + Author Event

Where do I start?

The Secret Fire is an amazingly written, YA dystopia book by two fabulous authors; C.J. Daugherty and Carina Rozenfeld, an award winning French author. The two whom I met at a Hatchards book launch event in London. The two collectively collaborated to produce The Secret Fire. The Secret Fire is a story where Taylor Montclair and Sasha Winters race against time to conquer fate.

Personally, I liked reading the book like I really really enjoyed reading it and I just really wanted to get to the end of the book. Like you do with all books but towards the end of the book I realised something, I just really wanted to know the end. Naturally, like others but this book was different. The problem I realised, when I was ¾ down, was that I didn’t feel as much emotion as I usually do (being a very emotional person). The book hadn’t made me cry yet, it didn’t make me utterly scared or frightened to death about what was to come, yes it made me smile at times but didn’t make me want to hug the book and never let go.

Don’t get me wrong, it was interesting, very, very interesting and I was so very intrigued by the book. Knowledge was my craving, emotion there was a lack of. But I guess I didn’t mind that as I hadn’t realised until I was almost done with the book.

The finality left me helpless. And yearning for more.

Immediately, I tweeted C.J Daugherty asking if there was a sequel and was so grateful for her reply.

“@SiredHybridxx YES. 😀 The Secret City comes out next year.”

I am now holding onto hope for The Secret City and I am absolutely excited for the second part.

On a final note, the book launch event was incredible! Meeting both authors was a pleasure and being first in line to get my book signed was a complete delight. I received a Secret Fire tote bag and cake pop which was insanely wonderful, so thank you to the organisers and the authors.

I rated the story 4/5 stars on Goodreads.

5sos.

(This is kind of personal, you might not understand it but here it is…)

But I stood in front of you guys today,

And I stood there staring cause I had nothing to say,

Realising I lost respect for you along the way,

I thought I’d tell you how much I love you,

And you’d reply with I love you too.

But I lost that respect along the way,

And you have no idea how hard this is to say,

You were my one and only band,

My four little helping hands-

That respect; lost along the way,

And it’s not just about the fans,

It’s about your self-respect too.

Do you know?

Those fans that listen to your music at night,

Tears streaming from their pretty little eyes,

‘I’m okay’ so nobody knew it was all lies,

Cause life is just so damn hard for them,

And it’s you they depend upon.

They see you on TV,

It makes them smile,

Knowing at least their idol – yeah you,

Has a good life.

When I heard Ashton cut,

I cried knowing how hard it is to stop,

And he said no more because of his fans,

Was that really the truth or an uncaught lie?

When votes for which member fans liked best,

And Michael had the least percentage on the test,

I was upset because I thought about him,

How hard that must be, to really see.

But then came out that picture with Michael with those 2 girls,

And you guys tried to cover it up,

But something inside some fans broke off,

Knowing this is the band they look up to…

The band they defend like no other,

The band they depend upon.

Yeah that was me,

I guess you could say it still is.

When Calum took the three back home,

Ignored the fans,

It hurt,

And another piece of their heart broke away,

Knowing this is the band they look up to.

Crumble, disintegrate, and surrender,

They counted on Luke to keep them sane,

Did you even know the girls name?

Another picture,

They didn’t know who to blame.

Tears dry up,

Look back at their Twitter page,

See their idols another time,

Justifying it by saying “you’re teenage boys.”

Turn to sleep,

Hoping for at least a week,

No repeats.

Just another song,

Happy it got released.
